1985 Policy for Off-Air Recording of Broadcast Programming for Educational Purposes

Policy Statement

In its use of off-air recordings of copyrighted broadcast television programs, the University of California will follow the Federal copyright law in Title 17, United States Code.

Definitions of key terms in the University Off-Air Recording Policy form Appendix A. They are incorporated into and should be interpreted as part of this policy.

The "Federal Guidelines for Off-Air Recording of Broadcast Programming for Educational Purposes" were published in the October 14, 1981 Congressional Record and are attached for information as Appendix B.

The University of California Policy for Off-Air Recording of Broadcast Programming for Educational Purposes applies to all University of California campuses, offices, affiliates, and facilities, including Agriculture and Natural Resources, and this policy is advisory to the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.
